Basel, Switzerland – your conference city
Switzerland is wonderful, with its magnificent mountains and lakes as well as world-famous chocolate and cheese. Swiss craftsmanship, its watchmaking tradition is second to none. What Switzerland also offers, especially the city of Basel, is the perfect environment for holding a conference or business event.
Conference City Basel
The conference city Basel is ideally located where Switzerland meets France and Germany, close to the Basel-Mulhouse Airport and with a great public transport system. The city has the necessary facilities to accommodate conference participants, including first-class hotels, restaurants, nightlife, great shopping and museums. Basel is a beautiful old university city on the Rhine river, well looked after, clean and safe, making it one of the best places in Europe to host an exhibition or conference.
Organisers choose Basel
Conference organisers should consider two factors when selecting a location for their event: the necessary infrastructure for the size of the conference and a motivating environment. In Basel, you have both. Thanks to huge investments the city has upgraded its infrastructure in recent years. And Messe Basel is the largest and most distinctive exhibition and conference complex in Switzerland – ideally located in the centre of the city. It has an expanse of 141,000 square meters of exhibition space. The City Lounge was added in 2013 as the centrepiece of Messe Basel. The three-story complex was designed by Herzog & de Meuron, world-class Basel architects.
Home of important Trade Fairs and Events
The city of Basel promotes an open-minded culture with a nice concentration of very innovative companies, including biotech and pharmaceutical. This city offers an international environment that attracts world-famous events like Basel Life Science Week and MipTec Exhibition, Europe´s most important gathering for the life sciences sector. Not to forget BASELWORLD, the largest and most important exhibition for the watch and jewellery industry worldwide. Art Basel is also held here and is the global leading show featuring modern and contemporary art. These events and others have given the city the new identity of conference city Basel.
Alongside Messe Basel is the Congress Center Basel. Refurbished in 2013 it combines functionality with modern aesthetics. Altogether, this multi-purpose facility can accommodate up to 6,000 people and offers a large number of halls, rooms and foyers of all sizes.
In December 2014 the Congress Center Basel hosted the 21st OSCE Ministerial Council. On the ground floor of the Event Hall the Plenary Hall was installed for this conference. Delegates came from 57 OSCE member states and well about 2000 participants attended. The city of Basel provided the perfect conditions for this incredible event including security, which is a big concern these days. The Congress Center Basel proved to be exceptionally well suited, with 80 separate meeting rooms, a media centre for more than 200 members of the press, and seated dining for 1200 people. Congrex Switzerland was a logistical partner in the organisation of this important event.
Whatever size conference or event you have planned it is clear that conference city Basel can handle it. Your employees and guests will find the people of Basel doing whatever they can to make your conference a big success. By selecting Basel for your conference you are choosing a magnificent first-class destination, guaranteed to provide everyone top-level comfort and quality.
