It is always an exciting challenge to bring a new congress to life, as happened in Berlin in May 2018. After a lengthy planning period the first International Conference of the German Society of Nursing Science took place in the Abba hotel. The congress represented a milestone for specialists and professionals in German nursing science, both as a platform for the presentation of international scientific findings and trends, and also as a forum for exchange.
Organising A New Conference for the Very First Time: Since the congress was held for the very first time it was extremely difficult to estimate the number of participants. Initially, 30 abstracts and 80 attendees were expected. These figures were greatly exceeded: eventually, 150 abstracts were submitted and 200 people participated. On top of this, limited capacity posed a challenge when an unscheduled two-day poster exhibition had to be organised.
How Congrex mastered it
Our team had to work quickly and flexibly, reacting quickly to every challenge. The plan for the scientific programme and the venue had to be modified again and again. The venue offered three modular rooms which were able to be constantly rearranged, merged and separated again, to cope with the growing number of participants. In order to handle the larger number of abstracts more efficiently they were published both the conventional way, and also digitally.
