Due to its convenient location at the confluence of the French, German and Swiss borders, scientists from around the world are able to enjoy superior venues, access to a variety of conference halls and the ability to interact with other professionals in select fields. In addition, Basel is home to such reputable firms as Roche and Novartis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Beginning on Monday 19<\/span><span class=\"s2\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span><span class=\"s1\"> September, the annual Basel Life Science Week (BLSW) is once again opening its doors to experts throughout various industries. What are some of the key attractions of this year&#8217;s internationally recognised symposium?<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">New top-class committee for the European Association for Life Science<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We should first point out that the European Association for Life Science is formally hosting this event since 2015. EALS has several goals including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">To strengthen the reputation of Basel as the hub for life sciences within the European Union.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">To bolster meaningful collaborations between industry experts and academia.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">To serve as the primary non-profit organisation for the Basel Life Science Week into the future.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">The vision is for Basel LIFE to be the \u201cART Basel\u201d for Life Sciences.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Just before the start of the this year\u2019s Basel Life Science Week, EALS is proud to present its new committee with Prof. Susan M. Gasser (director of the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research) as President,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Prof. Edwin C. Constable, Vicerector Research University of Basel as Vice-President and Bryn Roberts, Global Head pRED Informatics at Roche as Strategic Officer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">So, it should be clear that the EALS will be a pivotal contributor to this life sciences conference. The presence of this organisation will help to attract even further collaborators at next year&#8217;s conference, to ensure that the entire industry remains at the forefront of human-centred health care and innovative research solutions.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Basel Life Science Week 2016 &amp; MipTec Exhibition<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Basel Life Science Week takes place at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.congress.ch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Congress Center Basel<\/a>\u00a0and Messe Basel.\u00a0The event\u00a0is becoming a great magnet for life sciences innovation. The 2016 programme will see a convergence of many great offering \u2013 which include: The Day One programme on Precision Medicine from BaselArea.\u00a0The ILMAC Exhibition on Laboratory Equipment, and the Medical Devices and Diagnostics conference \u201cMedtech&amp;Pharma\u201d will all take place the same week. This synergy of events will be the most amazing event in life science and health space. You can access all these programmes from links on the Basel Life Science Week homepage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">One interesting feature of this year&#8217;s Basel Life Science Week (as in the past) is the presence of the inspiring and educational conference along with the MipTec exhibition. This event is intended to showcase the latest revolutions in the discovery of new pharmaceutical treatments, the research and development process, advances in quality control and how such standards can be applied across various industries. The conference will be taking place between 19<\/span><span class=\"s2\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span><span class=\"s1\"> and 23<\/span><span class=\"s2\"><sup>rd<\/sup><\/span><span class=\"s1\"> September. Some of the presenters and attendees include (but are certainly not limited to):<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Pharmacologists<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Researchers<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Sales and marketing specialists<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">CEOs<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">University Professors<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Principal investigators<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It is predicted that approximately 3,000 guests will be attending and currently, no less than 100 companies are expected to showcase their advancements. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Keynote Lecture Series 2016<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This year will host a milieu of respected names within the sector of life science. This event intends to focus upon levels of enhanced competency when dealing with laboratory processes. In particular, a seminar known as &#8222;Industry 4.0&#8220; is aimed at highlighting the role of automation within the modern laboratory environment. It is expected that more than 12,000 industry professionals will attend this event.
